The typical lifestyle in Pompeii was a moderately wealthy person with an average sized house that could house a family of three to four people. The Pompeiian social structure ranged from farmers living in modest little houses in the outskirts of the city to wealthy politicians living in large villas filled with artwork usually in the centre of the city. Usually a male Pompeian citizen would wear a toga made by the women of the family, wealthier families would have slaves do this work for them. While slaves wore tunics that they had made themselves.

If you could afford to buy clothes, you could buy linen, cotton or silk, which was brought to Rome from other parts of the Empire. This man is wearing a toga.
